The following information relates to our commercial vehicle insurance product.
Anyone can take out van insurance. If you are licensed to drive the vehicle and use it for work, then van insurance should be your recommended choice. Having van insurance for your work vehicle also covers you for driving the vehicle for private use, just as if you had normal vehicle insurance on the van.
What is a no claims bonus and why would I protect it?If you do not make a claim during one year of insurance cover, you are earn a discount on your next annual premium. This discount can build up to a maximum of seven years, at which point it offers a sizable discount. After four years you may opt to protect your discount, meaning you can keep some, or all of it, even in the event of a claim.
Protecting No Claim Bonus means, for a small extra premium, your no claims discount will remain unaffected by any claims you make. Without protection if you make a claim you will lose all your no claims discount. Some insurers reserve the right to alter your premium following a claim or a motoring conviction. Keeping your no claims discount can still provide considerable reductions in insurance costs.
What proof of no-claims discount do I need?We need you to send us, within 10 days of taking out the van insurance policy, proof of your no-claims discount. This must be either:
Please note that this document will not be returned.
What happens if I cannot supply proof of no-claims discount? You need to provide us with proof to support your request for a no-claims discount. This must be supplied within 10 days of taking out the policy. If you cannot provide us with the proof within the 10 day period the policy will automatically be re-calculated from the start date as if there was not a no-claims discount. We will notify you by e-mail of the additional premium due.
I want to drive in Europe - am I covered?Your policy included cover at your same level (comprehensive or Third Party Fire and Theft) for up to 30 days in any one year for travel in Europe.
Can I use my private car No Claims Bonus? You are allowed to transfer your no claims bonus from a private car policy to our van insurance product on the condition that the van is the only vehicle claiming this discount. This means you cannot use the discount on another private vehicle.
This is because the discount is a single 'voucher' that can only be cashed in on one vehicle at a time. If you were applying the same no claims bonus to two vehicles, you would be getting double the value you had earned.
What restrictions are there on the drivers? You may have up to three named drivers on our van insurance policy. This is known as "proposer +2" - the main driver is always referred to as the proposer.
The same rules apply to all drivers of a vehicle:
It is by enforcing these rules that we are able to offer such a competitively priced insurance product.
I have changed my mind and do not want van insurance. We hope that you will be very happy with your van insurance policy.
